If you have a suspected bad fuel pump relay and need to temporarily jump it for testing, it is quick and easy to do.
A better method in many cases is to look in the fuse box for a relay with the same part numbers and temporarily use it.
Using another similar relay is commonly a quick way to test for a bad relay.
The relay can also be jumpered with a wire which will activate the fuel pump.
Here is a schematic for a 1999-2006 GM and Chevy fuel pump relay, which is also common for other years and vehicles.
To jumper the fuel pump relay, use a jumper wire from Pin 30 to Pin 87.
Jumpering the two connections is easy to do with a small wire used to complete the circuit.
Of course, be sure to make the correct connections, or it can cause issues.
Note: Do this at your own risk. While many people do the jumper method when done wrong it may cause damage.
How To the Jump Fuel Pump Relay on a Chevy Truck
- Locate the fuel pump relay in the fuse box.
- Remove the relay from the fuse box.
- Use a jumper wire and go from Pin 30 to Pin 87.
- After the jumper is in place, test the fuel pump.
Summery
The fuel pump relay can be easily jumped on a Chevy or GM Truck.
All the relays I have seen; have pins 30 and 87 that need a connection to turn on the fuel pump.
There may be differences I am unaware if so, be sure to find a diagram or schematic of your year make and model of Chevy.
An easier alternative method to a jumper is to look in the fuse box for another relay with the same part number on it.
Often another relay with the same part number will operate something not needed for the engine to start, such as the horn relay or similar.
Swapping this relay in would be more ideal and a quick way to test.
Of course, a jumper wire can also be used for testing and is also easy to do.

This method is very straight forward, but it’s unclear if the ignition switch should be on or off. Either way, for my attempts, the 20A fuse kept popping. The relay and pump work fine when normally installed. I’m a bit baffled by it because it is a very simple override. That was my experience.
