The 2015-2016 Toyota Corolla’s are equipped with LED lights that are compact projector lights.
The only way to replace the Low-Beam bulb is by replacing the headlight assembly. The High-Beam and the Turn Signal are much easier to replace.
Replacing the headlight assembly for a Low-Beam headlight bulb sounded crazy when I first heard this, but it is how they designed it.
The High-Beam light can be easily replaced with a new bulb.
Below are the steps with screenshots to replace either bulb, as always, if in doubt, take your vehicle to a professional.
Tools and Parts Needed
- New High-Beam 9005 Headlight Bulb
- New Low-Beam LED Headlight Assembly
- Screw Driver. (Low-Beam Bulb Only)
- 10mm Socket. (Low-Beam Bulb Only)
No tools are needed when replacing the High beam bulb.
Replacing the Low-Beam bulb will require a 10mm socket and a flat head screwdriver.
A new headlight assembly with a LED projector light will be needed to replace the Low-Beam bulb.
The High-Beam only needs a 9005 headlight bulb.
When replacing any headlight bulb, be sure not to touch the bulb itself with your fingers, as oil from your hands can create a hot spot that shortens the life of the bulb.
How to Replace High-Beam Headlight Bulb 2015-2016 Toyota Corolla
- Open the hood and locate the bulb behind the headlight assembly.
- Turn the bulb counterclockwise and pull it out.
- Press the tab on the electrical plug and pull the bulb out, separating the two.
- Insert the new bulb into the electrical plug.
- Insert the bulb into the housing and turn it clockwise.
- Test the headlight which should now work.
How to Replace Low-Beam Headlight Bulb 2015-2016 Toyota Corolla
- Remove two retainer clips on the bumper.
- Pull the edge out a bit, making sure it is loose.
- Remove 2-retainer clips and one 10mm bolt from the top of the grill.
- Remove 3-retainer clips from behind the grill.
- Remove the grill.
- Remove 2-bolts on the top of the light assembly.
- Remove 1-bolt on the side of the light assembly.
- Remove the light assembly.
- Unplug the electrical plugs.
- Install the new headlight assembly in reverse order.
- Test the light, which should now work.
Summary
It is not difficult to replace the high-Beam headlight bulb on a 2015-2016 Toyota Corolla, but the Low-Beam requires more work.
The Low-Beam needs the entire headlight assembly replaced, which requires removing the grill and loosening the bumper.
The job is still a straightforward task, even if a bit more compared to older Toyota Corollas.
It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has only replaced the LED projector light.
The LED projector light is sealed in the plastic but can be cut out.
