If you have a Nissan and the “Forward Emergency Braking” light is always on, it can be caused by several things.
Common causes for it staying on include low brake fluid, a blown a fuse, a bad sensor, and wiring.
The Forward Emergency Braking warning light is a symbol of the front of a vehicle almost touching the rear of another vehicle with a star above both.
What is the Nissan Forward Emergency Braking System?
The Nissan Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) was created to help stop the vehicle when a collision is imminent.
When a sensor at the front of the vehicle detects an object is close, the system will apply the brakes automatically.
Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) is a safety feature designed by Nissan to help prevent accidents.
Possible Causes When Nissan Forward Emergency Braking Light Always On
- Low Brake Fluid
- Blown Fuse
- Radar Sensor
- Wiring
The first thing to check with any braking problem is that the fluid level is correct.
A master cylinder will be inside the engine compartment against the firewall.
It can be checked by looking at the level line located on the master cylinder.
If a sensor fuse is blown that is on the circuit for the Forward Emergency Braking system, it will cause an issue.
Check the fuses and be sure no fuses are blown, and replace them if there are.
The Radar sensor is located at the front of the vehicle behind the Nissan logo.
To remove it, the front bumper needs to be removed, but it can be examined by opening the hood.
Examine the sensor for any damage, such as an object from the road or similar.
The Radar sensor needs to be level to work properly; if anything has hit it, it may have knocked it off of level.
If it is knocked out of level in some cases, it can be readjusted to get it working again.
Often the Radar sensor needs to be re-calibrated to get it working again.
A dealership or professional mechanic shop would be needed to re-calibrate the sensor.
If the Radar sensor is bought online and replaced by the vehicle owner, it likely will need to be re-calibrated also.
Some Nissan owners have reported success replacing the Radar sensor themselves, but it is roughly 50/50 whether or not it needs calibration.
The wiring going to the Radar sensor can also cause issues if there is a loose connection.
Check the harness plug at the sensor to be sure it is making good contact.
An open or short in the wiring can also cause issues.
Summary
The Nissan Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) is a great safety system that will benefit many drivers.
Like any system, it can have issues and malfunction.
When there is a problem with the Forward Emergency Braking system, the light will stay on and not go off.
The first thing to check is the brake fluid to be sure it is at the correct level.
Next, check for any blown fuse that will also cause a problem.
The Radar sensor can also be checked and is located at the fount of the vehicle behind the grill.
The wiring harness and connectors going to the Radar sensor can also be checked for a loose connection or open and short.
Have you had any issues with a Nissan, and the Forward Emergency Braking light will not go off? Let us know your thoughts below.
I have a 2019 Nissan Altima and the forward emergency brake light is always on and it seems to brake when nothing is in front of it or close to it.
Thank you for the informations, I have a nissan xtrail 2015 but I installed the rear bumpers. From that time the emergency braking light is on. Can it create a damage to the car if it doesn’t go off?
I have a 2018 Nissan Murano Platinum, my forward EBS. Sometimes. I can drive a hundred miles, and, on some occasions, maybe only ten miles before the warning light. When working, distance control works perfectly.
Do you have any recommendations?
Thank you for your time and attention

If all the above listed things are good, then there likely is a wiring issue.
