Most everyone has been in a situation where they have a scratch on a car that they wish was gone.
Thankfully there are many low-cost scratch-removal kits for cars and trucks that make removing them a straightforward process.
These kits contain everything needed to remove an unsightly scratch from your vehicle.
How To Tell if a Scratch Will Buffer Out?
The basic idea to remove a scratch is to remove a small layer of the Clear Coat and polish it returning it to a normal look.
If the scratch has gone through the Clear Coat, buffering it out will not work.
A rough basic way to see if a scratch can be buffered out is to run your fingernail along it. If your nail gets caught, it likely will not buffer out.
There are many scratch removal kits available with some of our favorite picks below.
As always be sure to read the reviews on Amazon, forums, here, or elsewhere to be sure a unit is a good fit for you.

- Turtle Wax T-234KT Premium Scratch Repair
The 3M Scratch Removal System has been available for a while and is a popular option.
It comes with everything necessary to get the job done.
Things Included
1 3000-grit abrasive square
1 purple compounding pad
1 black polishing pad
1 (1 oz) 3M rubbing compound
1 (1 oz) 3M scratch remover
Basic Steps to Remove a Scratch.
To use the system first, the area needs to be cleaned and dried off. Masking tape goes around the area that is to be worked on.
Water is applied to the 3000-grit abrasive square.
The area is then sanded gently with light to medium pressure.
Next, the compounding pad is attached to a drill, and a small amount of rubbing compound is applied to the pad. The area is then buffed.
Once the area has been buffed with the rubbing compound, it is cleaned again, and the polishing compound is used with the black pad.
Once done and the area cleaned the scratch should be gone.
The Turtle Wax T-234KT is another popular scratch removal system.
It uses a filler to add to the damaged area. After it dries it is buffed out to match the surrounding areas.
Summary
Having a scratched vehicle can be frustrating. Hopefully, it is not so deep as to be easily repaired.
Sometimes when the cut is too deep, it will need to be taken to a body shop for repair with body sanding tools.
Scratch removal kits while great are limited to how badly damaged the car or truck is.
