Why is the Dodge Journey Battery Located in The Fender-Well?
Car batteries are usually located in the fender wheel to keep it away from the heat of the engine.
Heat can shorten the life of a battery, and with it located in the fender well helps to block off some heat the engine produces.
It does make the battery harder to replace compared to a standard battery mounted in the engine bay but may have the advantage of longer battery life.
Summary
The battery placement in a Dodge Journey is located in the fender-well, which may confuse those looking in the engine bay.
Some owners may wonder where the battery is located since it is not immediately clear where it is.
Replacing the battery in the Dodge Journey is straightforward but not as easy as the battery located in the engine bay.
The front tire will need to be removed, and the wheel-well splash guard will also be removed.
Once the splash guard is removed, the battery can be unbolted and replaced as any other unit would be replaced.

I did the whole job without removing the front tire. The battery was from WalMart, at $59 plus core & tax, delivered free even on a Sunday. I jacked the front end of the truck up just a little using the scissor jack found in the trunk. Of course, a special clip remover was needed, but the 10mm and 13mm wrenches did fine, plus an adjustable. Don’t listen to these YouTube guys that rip the whole front end of the car off just to do the battery!
where are the terminals to jump the car
where do i get the connection to get power from another car
It’s hard to remove the bolts or nuts off the terminals, and hard to understand which ones they are. Is it always necessary to disconnect the negative ground first, and if so from where? Are any special tools required besides the clip removers?
